Cartagena, like many of the cities on the Northern Mediterranean coast, has a long history. First settled by the Phoenicians over 2,000 years ago, it has seen Carthagenians, Moors and Romans as the rulers of the city. Every time they start a new building project, they have to do an archaeological excavation because the city sits on so much history. It has beautiful beaches and water and is the home of the first electric submarine built in the late 1800s. Margie got us a taxi tour with a great driver named Juan who was very knowledgeable and great fun. What a beautiful day. Who did the sculpture on the plaza? Quite impressive.

If you’re talking about the picture with the three of us, that’s a very old Ficus tree.

Mediterranean blue, indeed! I know you loved seeing the submarine, too. Great photos. No one here would make that bench. If they did, people would likely steal the tiles from it.
