Betty and I volunteer with Care Net, a pregnancy support ministry. We offer pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and lots of educational videos and materials to help mothers and fathers prepare for their coming event.
So, we’re mindful each year of Advent, the season celebrating the coming birth of Jesus.
In a little less than three weeks we will celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus. In this time of their story, Mary and Joseph were probably preparing for their journey to Bethlehem for the required census.
Mary was close to her time with the baby Jesus snuggled directly under her heart receiving life giving oxygen and nourishment through the umblical cord. This cord connected Jesus and Mary in a special way.
Jesus’ birth and ultimately his sacrifice on the cross for our sins created a potential ‘umbilical cord’ that can connect us with God in a special, life-giving way.
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are connected to God and we reside under his heart just as Jesus was under Mary’s heart as she prepared for her trip to Bethlehem.
Soon, the words of the song will come true…
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy would calm the storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby you kiss the face of God.
Come baby Jesus.
AMEN!

Wonderful. The connection between your work at the center and Mary and Joseph’s journey made me pause and wonder about if this “unexpected” pregnancy had occurred in 2018. Thanks .
