Betty and I volunteer at Care Net, a pregnancy care center, because we want to do what we can to support women who may be facing an unplanned or difficult pregnancy.
Our pastor preached this morning on the sanctity of life.
His focus was on what God says in the first book of the Bible, Genesis… Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Genesis 1:26
This ‘making’ of man begins at conception… For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. Psalms 139:13
So, every unborn child is an image-bearer of God, no matter the circumstances of their conception or birth.
This is true of every person on this earth. They may look different than me. They may believe differently from me. They may hate the things I love and love the things I hate.
All of this doesn’t change that fundamental truth — they are image-bearers of God.
I don’t have to accept or believe the things that separate us, but as a follower of Jesus I am commanded to love and respect them as fellow image-bearers of God.
From birth to death, every life is created by God and bears his image. This gives value to all life.
