Finally, one of God’s amazing creations…

Reaching Out

Betty and I have supported children through Compassion International since the mid-80s. Our current child, the seventh child we’ve supported, is Sarai who lives in Bolivia. We started supporting her when she was six years old and she just turned thirteen.

Sarai does well in school, is a big help to her family, and a believer in Jesus.

We’re sharing this not to put any spotlight on us, but to remind us all of the need to reach out beyond our comfort zones to share the love of Jesus.

Time To Speak

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA was shot and killed yesterday while he engaged with college students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He answered the first question about religion and his answer was about love. He said he loved Jesus Christ and was not there to bash Mormons. Shortly after that comment as he was listening to a second question he was shot in the neck and died later in the hospital.

His mission was to engage high school and college students in a Socratic manner using questions and dialogue. He answered questions with respect but always stood on the truth he believed. He wanted young people to learn they could disagree and share their viewpoints through respectful dialogue.

He was a strong, outspoken Christian with a wife and two children.

He was silenced in an effort to scare people like him from speaking up in the future. I pray to God his death will encourage others to follow in his footsteps.

An irony for Betty and me is we spent the night in Orem, Utah years ago and that’s where we met and talked with David McCullough who loved America and shared that love through his books. He was there to give the keynote speech at a new Constitutional center on the campus of Utah Valley University.

The very first statement in OUR Constitution is the protection of the freedom of speech. That freedom is under attack.

I still do not intend for this blog to be political. I’m not called to do that, but I cannot let this evil event pass without standing up in support of what Charlie Kirk was trying to do.
