Doves

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)

In our case, these doves are sent out in the midst of coyotes. Still very dangerous.
Posted on August 16, 2025
Why 40 years ago? Today, I turn 80 years of life.
I’m mindful Moses left Egypt at the height of his strength and power to dwell in the land of Midian as a shepherd. For 40 years, he humbly watched sheep in the desert. He learned the ways of the desert and how to lead and manage unruly sheep.
It was God’s preparation for him at the age of 80 to lead the unruly nation of Israel through 40 years of wandering through the desert.
40 years ago, I was a brand new Christ-follower with one year under my belt. I thought I was at the height of my strength and power as a Christian. Boy, was I wrong.
Similar to Moses, God has used my last 40 years and all its ups and downs to help me trust him more and more, especially in circumstances where I have no control. Do I think God will use me at this age of 80 years as he did Moses? Yes, but most likely in a very different way, on a much smaller stage. And, I don’t expect to live as long as Moses did.
That’s OK with me. I know from God’s word in Ecclesiastes that God has numbered my days and I want to be available and useful to him and his glory regardless of how many days are left.

One more thing. At my age, I debated whether to keep this blog going. I’ve decided to do so, but at a reduced rate. I’ll try to keep the Monday Humor, the Good News Wednesday videos, and something on Sunday. Other than that, I may occasionally throw in a photo that I like. Everything slows down at this age. 😉

Betty and I can relate to these pups, especially recently …
Another Monday

Spelling is definitely not his hobby …

We know which side all English majors will be on (business majors on the left) …

For Betty this was true when the kids were at home. Now, not so much …

Extreme problems require extreme solutions …

This is true of us. Our garage fridge and freezer are working fine after 21 years. We’re on our second in-house fridge and the ice maker still doesn’t work …

How do you know when they’re gone? …

Now some old-age funnies …

Also more reliable …

This is embarrassingly true for our two sons, but when I was this age we only wore jeans …

This has been my message to our two sons …

Tired of lawyer commercials? Here’s one more …

Not making fun of Jesus, but of AI …

My Sister Jane
Posted on August 10, 2025
My older sister, Jane, lives in Bowling Green, KY and has had health issues for a long time. She recently went into hospice care by her choice and is close to going home. She has gone downhill faster than expected so we most likely won’t be able to get there before her passing. We’re juggling plans in the midst of that uncertainty.
So, probably not much blog activity over the coming week or so. Tomorrow’s Monday funnies will be there because it was scheduled earlier.
Keep us and her in your prayers. Thanks.
