As I age and get closer to standing before God, I’m realizing that the Gospel, God’s word, and especially Jesus’ words, are simple.
In the scripture above from the Gospel of John, Jesus’ words are clear and simple.
Jesus is THE way to God, the ONLY way. There are not multiple ways to God. Jesus says clearly and simply there is only ONE way to God and that’s through him.
This sounds restrictive and it is, but the way through Jesus to God is available to everyone if they put their faith in him and in what he has done.
Jesus also makes it clear that he is THE truth. There are not multiple truths. God’s word is true, period.
Finally, Jesus makes it clear that he is THE life. Paul writes in his letter to the Romans: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Without Jesus we have only death in our present and in our future because of our sinful nature. Life, both for the here and now and into eternity, is found only in Jesus. He took my sin to the cross and died to pay the price that I can never pay. He rose from the grave to prove that true life comes only through him.
For me, it’s just that simple. I had the opportunity to reject these three statements of Jesus and live with my sin, separated from God. Or, I had the opportunity to believe these very simple statements of Jesus and have a new and eternal relationship with God.
I’m so thankful to Jesus for the opportunity to choose and the choice I made.
He is enough. I am grateful to witness the life you’ve lived in witness to Jesus, and that you have always pointed me towards Him when I dared to look away. Thank you precious cousin. 🙏
