We have a Spanish pastor in our church, Nehil. He pastors a separate Spanish congregation that meets on Sunday afternoons. He always preaches the same message as our lead pastor, Mike, preaches, only in Spanish. This past Sunday Nehil preached at the English services on Sunday morning as Mike was preaching at another church.
We’re going through Philippians and Nehil preached on Philippians 3:12 – 4:1. The theme was “We’re seized by Jesus, shaped by the Cross, and steadied by Glory.”
The illustration he used was as Christians we’re in the middle of our road, the middle of our journey. The starting point is when we were ‘seized by Jesus,’ when we were called by God and accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
The ending point of our journey is when we stand before Jesus in glory.
Nehil’s main point is that as we walk this middle part of our journey, we’re shaped by the Cross, what Jesus did for us, and our focus is on the ending point, standing before Jesus.
As we all know this middle part of our journey is often difficult with pitfalls, distractions, losses, wounds, sickness, injuries. That’s why it’s important to stand on our seizure by Jesus as our support and let the Cross shape us.
Finally, we need to keep our focus on the ending point, standing before Jesus in glory, letting that focus on our future glory steady us as we go through all the obstacles of walking in the middle.
